Detailed itinerary of 5 days Nyungwe and Akagera national park
Day 1: pickup and transfer to Akagera National Park
Start your 5 days safari in Akagera National Park, and you will be picked up from the airport in Kigali by your driver and be driven north of Rwanda to the southern gate of Akagera National Park. The park welcomes you with fresh pure air that clears your minds away. Check-in the lodge to rest and have lunch. Later in the afternoon, enjoy an evening game drive which is very rewarding. Get an opportunity to enjoy wildlife like lions, rhinos, giraffes, elephants with a number of antelope species. Set back to the lodge for dinner and a night.
Day 2: game drive and boat trip
Early morning after breakfast, get a chance to enjoy the animals that you didn’t see in the evening the previous day. Drive on many different trails where you will meet early hunters and raisers for their meal. Drive to the lodge for lunch and freshen up. Later in the afternoon, enjoy a boat ride at Ihema Lake which brings you close to the aquatic wildlife like hippos, crocodiles with several birdlife including African fish eagle and cattle egret. Later, head back to the lodge for dinner and a night.
Day 3: visit Nyungwe forest national park
In the morning, take your breakfast and drive southwards towards Nyungwe forest national park, visit the museum and king’s palace with an en-route lunch. Arrive late in the evening, check-in for dinner and a night.
Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk
Early morning at around 5, our driver will drive you to Nyungwe National Park headquarters for a briefing and later move into the cold forest with echoes of primates. These active creatures will be seen everywhere swinging on the branches from one tree to another. Spend time with them upon finding them and take photographs and videos to keep for memories. Later, head back to the lodge for freshening up and lunch. In the afternoon, take a canopy walk on a high 2 meters suspended bridge. This is adventurous and it gives you an experience of in between up and down which sometimes is scary. Later, head back to the lodge for dinner and a night.
Day 5: departure
Enjoy this drive back to Kigali which is a leisure activity; enjoy the fresh Rwanda pure clean air with beautiful buildings and the busy city of Rwanda. Enjoy an en-route lunch and drive to the international airport for your flight.
