On 1 day gorilla trek from Gisenyi, after an early morning breakfast at 4:30 am, your driver guide will pick you up and embark on a 3-hour drive to Volcanoes National Park through Kigali, the safest and cleanest city. Once you reach the park headquarters in Kinigi village, a ranger briefs you about the gorilla trekking rules and regulations over a cup of coffee. Depending on the gorilla family’s location, the experience can last anywhere from 2 to 5 hours. We advise tourists to pack bottled water, snacks, and porters for assistance as they trek through the dense bamboo forests and steep mountains to find one of the gorilla families. After a briefing, the driver guide takes you through the rocky and muddy terrain to the starting point. During the briefing, they always assign you to a gorilla family, and once you locate them, you have an hour to spend with them.
Watching gorillas is breathtaking; they are so playful and curious, and they always stay calm and listen to instructions. As long as they don’t have flash lights on, tourists are free to take photos and record as many videos as they like. We will serve lunch at the closest restaurant after the trek, and then proceed to Kigali for a final encounter with breathtaking landscape views. The great views and landscapes of Mt. Bisoke, Mt. Sabinyo, and Mt. Karisimbi creates room for memorable photography.
